Hipster + Engineer = Joshua Ogle, PE

August 29, 2018

Meet Josh Ogle, PE (aka) ‘The Hipster Engineer’. What is a hipster engineer, you ask? He is more than your average engineer and tries to find ways to give back to the profession. With his passion for engineering, Josh started TheHipsterEngineer.com to be a resource for engineers as they prepare for their licensure exams, job search and career growth. He strives to be a resource that is fresh and current to help engineers in today’s marketplace. Through ‘The Hipster Engineer’ website, Josh has been able to provide his personal insights into the life of an engineer and the everyday struggles that you have to deal with… from the stages of a student, to an engineer, and beyond. Some of the topics you can find on the blog include resume/cover letter help, job search help, licensure exam tips/tricks, career and life development and professional technical lecture recaps.

Josh received his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and  master’s degree from the University of California, Davis in Civil Engineering. He went on to help open a new office for his previous firm while preparing for the PE exam. He passed the Civil PE Exam (Structural Depth) along with the California Specific Exams (Seismic and Surveying), then soon after returned home to Salt Lake City, Utah. He joined our team at Dunn Associates, Inc. in February 2017. His portfolio of projects include Young Living Essential Oils Global Headquarters in Lehi, Utah, doTerra Operations and Sourcing Building in Pleasant Grove, Utah and many others.

Josh was recently selected to teach one of the national PE exam prep courses by PPI (link) which was recently acquired by Kaplan. Lesson plans are provided by PPI, while he adds his own flare and expertise to help the students become comfortable on test day. There are only 4 teachers that currently teach the PE Civil Breadth classes, Josh being one of them. He will also be 1 of 2 teachers in the coming weeks to teach the PE Structural Depth class. Josh uses his skills and experience over the past several years in the industry to bring clarity to engineering problems and help others pass the PE Exam.

Beyond engineering, he enjoys spending time with his wife and his pups. They are the things that keep him centered while working hard, studying hard and teaching hard!
